2024 Electric Corvette E-Ray

Recently, Chevy disclosed a teaser for their upcoming electric Corvette E-Ray, showing off mighty rev noises like your standard internal combustion engine, only to stealthily show the quiet electric model driving in the following scene. Still, a complete reveal of the electric Vette car would have been optimal; luckily, that time is close behind.

GM president Mark Reuss confessed in April last year, “We will offer an electrified and a fully electric, Ultium-based Corvette in the future.”

While word concerning a fully-electric Corvette has yet to be officially dropped, there has been talk for some months that the automaker was going to stir up the Vette lineup and their electric brand as a whole, encompassing SUVs and four-door iterations. For those pondering if the newest Corvette was going to cause a frenzy, a four-door SUV Corvette will certainly (for better or worse) cause controversy.

Fortunately, the secret will be revealed tomorrow, January 17, in The City That Never Sleeps. It also signifies the 70th anniversary of the release of the original Corvette in 1952 at the Waldorf Astoria.

Corvette introduced at GM Motorama

On January 17, 1953, a prototype Chevrolet Corvette sports car debuted at General Motors (GM) Motorama auto show at the Waldorf-Astoria Hotel in New York City. The Corvette, named for a fast type of naval warship, would eventually become an iconic American muscle car and remains in production today.

Likely the most exciting part of all this is the all-wheel-drive (AWD) system if the combustion engine and electric motors interweave. We’re still wondering if that will be the case. Then, if so, how?

For instance, a rear-wheel-drive (RWD) combustion engine could bring charge to the front-wheel-drive (FWD) EV motor via regen or an alternator power cable. Ideally, a substantial battery and plug will enable owners to do regular city driving without working the gasoline engine. The famous automaker suggested that an AWD model could be the first electric Vette model that doesn’t spin out of control during snowy seasons.

For years now, General Motors, the parent company of Chevy, has been saying “EVs for everyone.” Despite this, the company (like most other car manufacturers) is still beginning to uplift that promise. For now, only a few high-value vehicles of the brand have been promoted, such as the Cadillac Lyriq and GMC Hummer EV Electrek Car of the Year 2022 winner) and the Bolt EV.

While more than an electric Stingray version will be needed to fill out the middle-man alone, Chevy has three big launches set for this year. Particularly the (fleets only) Silverado EV in the spring, the lightning Blazer SS EV in the summer, and the value-centered Equinox EV in the fall.
