The 2025 Chevy Bolt EV was confirmed. General Motors announced the return of the all-electric hatchback at the Automotive Press Association in Detroit. Many thought the electric SUV would see its end as discontinuation rumors spread. Fortunately, the Bolt EV is here to stay and now features a major upgrade. The electric SUV will ride on General Motors’ Ultium platform, providing the next-generation Bolt EV with increased performance and capability. Chevrolet has thankfully resolved its production challenges so other Ultium-based EVs like the all-new Silverado EV and Equinox EV will join the Bolt EV in production. We’ll take a closer look at the next-generation hatchback and see what consumers can expect.

2025 Chevy Bolt EV Upgrades To Ultium Platform

General Motors (GM) CEO Mary Barra confirmed the arrival of the 2025 Chevy Bolt EV at the Automotive Press Association in Detroit. Barra stated that the Chevy Bolt EV will arrive in 2025 on GM’s Ultium platform. Discontinuation rumors spread about the Bolt EV so this news clears the air. Riding on GM’s Ultium EV platform will help the Bolt EV tremendously. Currently, the platform serves as the underpinning for the automaker’s electric vehicles. It provides EVs with access to a variety of combinations of motors and battery modules. This helps create the perfect balance of speed and power for highly capable EVs.

Regarding its performance, the current Chevy Bolt EV offers impressive capability and versatility. Equipped with a single-motor setup, the electric hatchback sees 200 horsepower and 266 lb-ft of torque. Paired with front-wheel drive, the SUV offers owners impressive acceleration and handling. With an upgrade to the Ultium platform, we can expect to see the Bolt EV hit with a large performance increase. That goes for its current 259 miles of battery range as well.

In addition to the 2025 Chevy Bolt EV, Chevy will also focus on the Blazer, Silverado EV, and Equinox EV. The automaker offers an impressive EV lineup that will be even more so thanks to the Ultium platform. The addition of new LFP batteries will also make Chevy’s EV lineup more affordable. The first EV to utilize the LFP batteries will be the 2025 Bolt EV. LFP battery cells offer a range of benefits, such as increased durability, the capacity to handle more charge cycles, and consistent fast charging. Although we do not yet have confirmation of an MSRP for the next-generation Bolt EV, thanks to LFP batteries, we expect the electric hatchback to land within the $30,000-$35,000 range (plus destination fee).
