Chevrolet’s Latest Holiday Ad Tugs On Heartstrings With 1972 Suburban

Chevrolet’s latest holiday ad warms hearts with nostalgia and strong emotion. The ad opens with a lively household but quickly devolves into a melancholic scene as we learn that a grandmother’s memory is slowly deteriorating. Fortunately, the woman’s granddaughter has an idea that will help jog some memories and bring her joy. This is where the 1972 Chevy Suburban comes into play as it stars as the centerpiece in this touching tale down memory lane. In its latest ad, Chevrolet reminds everyone where it came from and what it stands for. 

Chevrolet Evokes Nostalgia With 1972 Suburban

In its latest holiday ad, Chevrolet creates a touching scene that tugs on heartstrings. Starring as the centerpiece is a classic 1972 Suburban. The ad opens with a lively scene as a large family prepares for a holiday dinner. In a twist, however, the ad devolves into a melancholic scene with somber music as we discover that a grandmother is losing her memory. Fortunately, the woman’s granddaughter has a plan that will hopefully jog her grandmother’s memory. Enter the 72’ Suburban which we see covered up in the garage. The granddaughter unravels the classic SUV and helps her grandmother in. As she does, a glimmer of recognition spreads across the grandmother’s face. 

The woman takes her granddaughter on a drive down memory lane as they travel through their small town. As they drive, we see several Chevrolet vehicles like the 2024 Silverado and Suburban. The ad does well in creating a parallel that highlights family values as we witness the grandmother remember moments of her life. They drive past the grandmother’s old family home and old high school as John Denver’s Sunshine on My Shoulders plays. The grandmother soon recounts driving the classic 1972 Chevy Suburban as well as a time when she took her granddaughter to a drive-in theater. The grandmother’s memories come flooding back as she remembers her husband and their first date night at the drive-in.

The two quickly head back home so that the grandmother can return to her husband. Her memories are seemingly intact as she embraces her husband. As the ad comes to a close, Chevrolet ends with a scene of the lively family again. This time, however, the grandmother is acutely aware of them. Chevrolet’s A Holiday to Remember ad does well in evoking nostalgia with its classic Suburban. For those of us more familiar with the 2024 Chevy Suburban, it does well in reinforcing the idea that the family-sized SUV offers safety and reliability. While finding a classic 1972 Suburban may be a mission, the 2024 Suburban starts at an MSRP of $61,195 (plus destination fee). To this day, it remains a highly capable SUV that the whole family can enjoy.
