A Sneak Peek at the First-Ever Chevy Blazer EV PPV Model

The iconic Chevy Blazer, a renowned SUV nameplate under General Motors, is entering the world of electrification. Following a captivating preview at CES 2022, GM has officially introduced the Chevy Blazer EV this past July.

While the electric Blazer retains GM’s contemporary design philosophy, it sets itself apart from its gasoline-powered counterpart in various ways.

Built on the advanced Ultium platform, GM has elevated the Blazer with a blend of modern design, performance enhancements, and cutting-edge technology. Initial details indicated that the Blazer EV would come in four trims: 1LT, 2LT, SS, and RS, along with a specially designed Police Pursuit Vehicle (PPV) edition.

In July, a privileged look at the Chevy Blazer EV PPV was provided during the model’s debut. GM announced that the law enforcement-focused EV would be based on the performance-oriented “SS” model and incorporate the largest Ultium battery in the lineup.

GM’s specialized fleet management division, known as “GM Envolve,” has released a new video that delves into the distinctive features expected from the Police-rated Blazer EV.

Distinguished by an array of law enforcement-specific features, the Chevy Blazer EV PPV includes certified speedometer calibration, a robust suspension system, underbody skid protection, and 20-inch steel wheels.

Propelled by a 400V all-wheel-drive system, the electric Blazer boasts an impressive power output of up to 498 hp and an astonishing 531 lb-ft of immediate torque. Leveraging the Ultium platform, this setup ensures excellent weight distribution and a lowered center of gravity, creating a dynamic driving experience tailored to law enforcement needs.

Powered by a 105 kWh battery pack, the electric Blazer PPV achieves an estimated range of 250 miles while accommodating traditional emergency equipment requirements.

Chevrolet has thoughtfully integrated a range of features to streamline law enforcement routines, including keyless entry and contactless ignition. The vehicle seamlessly initiates upon detecting the key fob’s presence. If the key fob moves away, the Blazer effortlessly transitions into “Protected Idle” mode, remaining powered and unlocked to facilitate rapid responses.

Inside, the police-adapted Blazer EV showcases a selection of standard amenities, including a rear camera mirror and optional disabled rear door handles, among others.

Enhancing convenience, the Blazer EV PPV supports 400V DC fast charging, enabling a rapid addition of up to 71 miles of range in just 10 minutes or an impressive 141 miles in approximately 30 minutes.

Chevrolet has recently unveiled the finalized pricing and range details for various Blazer EV trims. Starting at $56,715*, the 2LT AWD variant offers an estimated range of 279 miles. Meanwhile, the RS AWD and RS RWD versions begin at $60,215* and $61,790*, respectively, delivering 279 miles and a GM-estimated 320 miles of range.

With an imminent launch on the horizon, Chevrolet projects the debut of the Chevy Blazer RS AWD this summer, followed by the RS RWD and 2LT AWD editions, set to commence production in the upcoming fall season.
