GM To Discontinue The Chevy Malibu
After nearly 60 years General Motors is finally saying goodbye to the Chevy Malibu. The iconic sedan will be discontinued following the release of the 2025 Malibu. The Malibu sees its way out alongside the Camaro which Chevy also plans to discontinue. These decisions come as part of the automaker’s larger goal to focus on EVs. Chevy is focusing on increasing the production of its electric vehicles as it continues to offer impressive EVs like the Silverado EV and Blazer EV. Emphasis on environmentally friendly vehicles and reduced carbon emissions have opened the door for powerful and versatile EVs. New tax incentives also encourage consumers to consider switching to an electric vehicle. This focus on EVs means we have to say goodbye to popular vehicles like the Chevy Malibu. Thankfully those interested in the midsize sedan will have the opportunity to purchase it before it’s officially discontinued. We’ll take a look at the sedan and see what consumers can expect.
Chevy Malibu Will Be Discontinued After 2025
Chevy is goodbye to its iconic Malibu sedan. The midsize sedan was first released in 1964 and quickly became a hit due to its affordability and capability. Now 60 years later, Chevy is discontinuing the Malibu to focus on electric vehicles. Although the midsize sedan will be discontinued, Chevy will release an updated 2025 model. About the iconic sedan, General Motors (GM) spokesperson Kevin Kelly said,
“To facilitate the installation of tooling and other plant modifications, after nine generations and over 10 million global sales, GM will end production of the Chevrolet Malibu in November 2024 and pause production of the Cadillac XT4 after January 2025,” said Kevin Kelly.
At a starting MSRP of $25,100 (plus destination fee), the Chevy Malibu proves to be an affordable family sedan. Affordability aside, the Malibu offers impressive capability and versatility. The midsize sedan is equipped with a 1.5-liter turbo four-cylinder engine that delivers 163 horsepower and 184 lb-ft of torque. A continuously variable transmission ensures drivers have a pleasant and engaging driving experience.
Adding to its overall practicality is the Malibu’s fuel economy. The Chevy Malibu sees 28 mpg in the city and 36 mpg on the highway. Inside, owners will find a spacious and comfortable interior with leather upholstery. An 8-inch display screen handles entertainment and driver assist features. Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are standard. In terms of safety, the Malibu features blind-spot monitoring, automatic emergency braking, and lane departure warnings. There are also forward collision alerts, lane keep assist, and adaptive cruise control. With so much to offer all at an affordable price, it’s unfortunate to see the Chevy Malibu go. Thankfully, Chevy will offer one last version before we say farewell.
